The Tennessee Environmental Council is asking for donations to help fund its upcoming fall Recycling Roundups, which provide Tennessee households with free options for disposing of hard-to-recycle materials.
The council will hold Recycling Roundups in Woodbury on October 3 and Smyrna on November 14.
Residents can bring items including tires, mattresses, electronics, Styrofoam, glass and paper for secure shredding.
The Recycling Roundups are designed to keep recyclable materials out of landfills, return materials to the economy, reduce illegal dumping and make responsible recycling more accessible across the state.
Each roundup costs the Tennessee Environmental Council approximately $25,000 to organize. A grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation covers $10,000 per roundup, leaving about $15,000 for the council to raise through donations and sponsorships.
The council has set a fundraising goal of $75,000 for the upcoming fall roundups and had raised $35,500 at the time of the appeal.
Donations of any amount can help the council continue offering the Recycling Roundups free and accessible to Tennessee households.
