Panda Express introduced its first-ever walk-and-eat snacking item, Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, on September 8, 2026, rolling it out in select test markets including Nashville. The limited-time dish draws inspiration from Taiwan’s night market culture and marks a new snacking format for the American Chinese restaurant chain. Guests in participating Nashville-area locations can now try the item as part of the regional test. More Eat & Drink News

What Is Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken

The dish is Panda Express’s take on yán sū jī, a popular Taiwanese street food staple. It features extra-crispy dark meat chicken tossed in a dry spice blend of tamarind, tomato, garlic, and onion, then finished with fried kale for color and texture. Every order comes with a side of house-made Chili Crisp Aioli for dipping.

Frankie Gaw Collectible Bucket Available Starting September 9

Panda Express partnered with Taiwanese American designer and cookbook author Frankie Gaw, known for his work as Little Fat Boy, to create a limited-edition collectible bucket. The design blends Taiwan’s night market nostalgia, classic American movie theaters, and Panda Express’s American Chinese heritage. Starting September 9, 2026, guests at participating test locations can receive the bucket with the purchase of a large à la carte pail of Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, while supplies last.

Where to Find Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Near You

The item is available only at participating Panda Express locations in the announced test regions while supplies last. Guests can visit pandaexpress.com/promo/tpc2026 to locate a participating store nearby.

How Much Does Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Cost

Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken can be ordered as a standard entrée selection on any Plate, Bowl, or Family Meal at no additional charge.

How the Dish Differs From Traditional Popcorn Chicken

Unlike typical fast-food chicken nuggets, Taiwanese yán sū jī uses a lighter, extra-crispy coating paired with a multidimensional dry spice seasoning. Panda Express combines savory onion and garlic with tangy tamarind and tomato powder, then adds fried kale and Chili Crisp Aioli for additional flavor and texture.

Will Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Expand Nationwide

The item is currently an exclusive regional test meant to gather guest feedback. Panda Express has not confirmed a nationwide rollout. Fans outside the test markets can follow @OfficialPandaExpress on Instagram and TikTok for updates on potential future expansion.
