Robert Plant will receive the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award during the 25th annual Americana Honors & Awards on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. More Entertainment News
Best known as the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, Plant has spent much of his career exploring blues, folk, gospel, country and other forms of roots music. His work has helped introduce Americana music to wider audiences while continuing to push the genre in new directions.
Plant’s collaborations with Alison Krauss and producer T Bone Burnett on the Grammy Award-winning album “Raising Sand” became a major moment for Americana music. The project brought renewed attention to American roots traditions and was followed by a second Plant and Krauss album, “Raise the Roof.”
He continued exploring roots music through projects with Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller and Band of Joy. More recently, Plant joined singer Suzi Dian and musicians from near his home along the Welsh border for “Saving Grace” and the follow-up EP “Saving Grace: All That Glitters.”
Those projects feature interpretations of songs connected to artists including Gillian Welch, Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie Johnson, Moby Grape, Low, Sarah Siskind and The Low Anthem.
Americana Music Association Executive Director Jed Hilly said Plant’s connection to the genre reflects a longstanding passion for its history and continued evolution.
“Few artists have done more to honor the music’s past while helping shape its future,” Hilly said.
The Americana Honors & Awards is the signature event of AMERICANAFEST and recognizes artists, musicians and industry leaders who have made significant contributions to Americana and roots music.
