Iona Kay (Chasteen) Canada, 76, of Salem, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2025, surrounded by her daughters.
Iona was born on December 18, 1948, in Salem, Illinois, to Lyle and Freda (Bowen) Chasteen.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Diana and Tammy; her nephews, Michael, Matthew, and Mark; and her great-nephew, Macsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael.
Throughout her life, Iona dedicated herself to creating opportunities for her family – encouraging education, sports, achievement, and professional growth. She built a successful career in sales with Johnson Controls and Trane, where she made a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike through her mentorship, professionalism, and warmth.
Outside of work, Iona found joy in tending her yard, reading, shopping, and traveling. Her spirit of curiosity and love of life were evident in all she did.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Iona’s name to Aveanna Hospice, whose compassionate care and support made it possible for her to remain at home during her illness and passing. Checks should be made out to MYSN and mailed to 235 Noah Drive, Suite 300, Franklin TN 37064.
Iona’s ashes will be spread in Kauai, Hawaii, at a later date – a place she loved deeply and found peace.
