The family of late country music star Joe Diffie is continuing his legacy of music, golf and giving back with the formation of the Diffie Classic Foundation, a new 501(c)(3) charitable organization. More Entertainment News
Diffie’s sons, Parker Diffie and Travis Humes, announced the foundation’s board of directors along with details for the second annual Diffie Classic Golf Tournament and “A Night To Remember Joe Diffie” concert.
Joining Parker Diffie and Humes on the board are Craig Campbell of Campbell Entertainment Group, Travis Hare of PNC Bank, Chris Lazere of Carter Lumber, Josh Petersen of Music City Management and Ricky Sessum of Music City Turf. Each board member will serve a three-year term.
“We’re excited to gather this group of music industry and community professionals to honor our father and further his legacy,” Parker and Travis said in a release. “Dad was all about family and giving back, and we established the foundation with a shared vision of giving back to the community through service, philanthropy, and meaningful events that reflect the values he embodied throughout his life.”
The second annual Diffie Classic Golf Tournament will take place Monday, Sept. 21, at 12 Stones Crossing Golf Club in Goodlettsville. Organizers said only four team slots remain available.
The celebration continues Tuesday, Sept. 22, with “A Night To Remember Joe Diffie” at The Nashville Palace. Mark Wills and John Berry will headline the concert, with additional performances from Ben Burgess, Bryan Keith Burns, Craig Campbell, Ashland Craft, Parker Diffie, Ty Graham, Love & Theft and Jesse Keith Whitley. Bryant Allan and Joe Denim will host the evening.
Proceeds from both events will benefit First Steps, a Nashville-based organization with a longtime connection to Diffie and his family.
Diffie’s son Tyler, who has Down syndrome, participated in First Steps’ early intervention and child development programs for several years. Diffie later became a longtime supporter of the organization, hosting the “Country Steps In For First Steps” concerts and golf tournaments from 1992 through 2004.
The new Diffie Classic Foundation aims to continue that tradition by supporting charitable causes through music, community service and special events inspired by Joe Diffie’s legacy.
