This fall, Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage will feature a season of ghost tours, Halloween activities, history programs, art workshops, and outdoor events at the historic Nashville property. Click for More Events
The fall schedule begins in August and continues through November, giving visitors a chance to experience the grounds as the seasons change.
One of the highlights is the return of the Hermitage’s annual Ghost Tours, running Thursdays through Sundays from Sept. 17 through Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The tours explore supernatural stories, unexplained occurrences and accounts connected to the historic site and the Jackson family, while also examining death, mourning customs and superstitions of the late-Regency and early-Victorian eras.
Upcoming fall events include:
September 3 at 6 p.m. — Wine & Watercolor at The Hermitage: Artist Elaine Allen will lead a three-hour watercolor workshop for all skill levels, with materials and a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink included.
September 27 at 6 p.m. — Casino Night: Hermitage members can take part in an adults-only evening featuring casino games, craft cocktails and friendly competition.
October 9 at 10 a.m. — Homeschool Day: Mapping the Frontier: Students ages 5 to 11 will learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition while practicing map-making skills.
October 10 at 5 p.m. — Hauntings at The Hermitage: The Halloween celebration begins with family-friendly activities including pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, a costume contest and haunted hayrides. The experience becomes scarier later in the evening, with hayrides continuing until midnight.
October 15 at 7 p.m. — Edgar Allan Poe: The Man Behind the Macabre: Interpreter Charles Wissinger will explore Poe’s life and perform selections from some of the author’s best-known works.
October 17 at 8 a.m. — 7th President 7K: The fifth annual race takes runners across the historic property, passing landmarks including The Hermitage Mansion, Tulip Grove Mansion and The Hermitage Church. A two-mile walking option will also be available.
October 24 at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. — The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Actor Neill Hartley will present an interactive one-man performance of Washington Irving’s classic ghost story.
November 7 — Plein Air Day: Artists from The Chestnut Group will paint throughout the grounds, with workshops available for visitors interested in trying outdoor painting themselves.
November 13 at 7 p.m. — Cherokee Tales: Presented in partnership with the Cherokee Historical Association, the family-friendly performance will explore traditional Cherokee myths, legends and folktales.
The Hermitage says the fall programming is designed to give visitors new ways to connect with the property’s history while enjoying the historic landscape during one of the most colorful times of year. Find more information here.
