Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Rhett Akins will officially become a member of theGrand Ole Opryon Tuesday, October 13 — his birthday. More Entertainment News
Akins was surprised with aninvited to join the Opry in June by his longtime friend and Opry member Jon Pardi. Akins co-wrote Pardi’s hit “Dirt On My Boots,” which became the singer’s second career No. 1.
The ACM Songwriter of the Decade and writer of 36 No. 1 country hits will be joined for his induction night by several friends and artists he has written songs for, including his son Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Pardi and Opry member Jamey Johnson, with additional performers expected.
Akins launched his recording career in the mid-1990s after Decca Records heard one of his demos. His 1995 debut album, A Thousand Memories, produced four charting singles, including his first No. 1, “That Ain’t My Truck,” which he co-wrote. He followed that success with another No. 1, “Don’t Get Me Started,” from his 1996 album Somebody New.
While Akins found early success as a performer, he has become one of Nashville’s most prolific songwriters, earning 36 No. 1 singles and numerous industry honors. He has twice been named BMI Songwriter of the Year and has received the CMA Triple Play Award seven times, an honor given to songwriters who write three No. 1 songs within a 12-month period.
In 2019, the Academy of Country Music named Akins its first Songwriter of the Decade. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021.
Akins’ Grand Ole Opry induction will take place Tuesday, October 13.
