Wilma Joyce Parker Prater, age 92, of Woodbury, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro.
Born in Cannon County, she was the daughter of the late Alex Brown Parker and Gladys Opal Duke Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, B.H. Prater, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Sienna Owens; brothers-in-law, Truman Prater, Haskell Prater, J.C. Prater, and Eldon Prater; and sisters-in-law, Nora St. John and Lola White Ramey.
She is survived by her children, Elaine (Kenneth) Hughes of Decherd, Waldon Prater, and Anthony (Beth) Prater of Woodbury; grandchildren, Bryan (Lori) Hughes and Dara (John) Currie; great-grandchildren, Spencer (Destiny) Hughes, Emma Grace Hughes, Sierra Owens, Stuart (Kayle) Owens, and Savannah Owens; great-great-grandchildren, Scarlet Hughes, Calvin Benschoter, and Braden Benschoter; sister, Gloria Stewart of Woodbury; brother, Avon Parker of Muncie, Indiana; and a very special friend, Lisa Brown.
Ms. Wilma was a faithful member of the Iconium Church of Christ and worked as a seamstress for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and helping others. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strong work ethic, and servant’s heart.
The Prater family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Woodbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Milton Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in the Prater Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Woodbury Nursing Home and Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro for the loving care, support, and kindness shown to Ms. Wilma and her family. Their dedication and comfort during her final days will always be remembered.
Ms. Wilma will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
