The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum recently opened a new photography exhibition, Grit and Glory: The Photography of Lawson Little, on Saturday, Sept. 12. Click for More Events
The exhibit features images spanning Little’s career, from gritty photographs of Grand Ole Opry performers and Nashville honky-tonks in the 1970s to Americana artists in the early 2000s.
Little studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and later photographed musicians through commercial work in Southern California and Nashville. Between 1997 and 2012, he photographed hundreds of performers before moving to Pensacola, Florida.
Featured images include Tammy Wynette and Jim & Jesse backstage at the Ryman Auditorium, Tootsie Bess and the staff of Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Roy Acuff performing a yo-yo trick onstage, Dwight Yoakam and Rodney Crowell at Exit/In, and Billy Joe Shaver at the Grand Ole Opry.
Other artists featured include Ralph Stanley, Roy Rogers, Shel Silverstein, Raul Malo and Dave Alvin.
Grit and Glory: The Photography of Lawson Little will be displayed in the museum’s first-floor gallery through August 2027. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
