Gas prices across Tennessee dropped four cents, on average, over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $4.03 which is 34 cents more expensive than one month ago and $1.31 cents more expensive than one year ago, reports AAA. This adds roughly $19 to the cost of filling a 15-gallon gas tank. AAA says the average Tennessee driver is currently paying around $60 to fill their gas tank. At this time last year, the average cost for a fill-up was around $40.
“Tennessee drivers are seeing some slight relief at the gas pump compared to last week, thanks to lower crude oil prices,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While this break is much needed, it’s important to remember that the overall gas price market is still fairly volatile and drivers can likely expect to see fluctuations in gas prices again this week.”
National Gas Prices
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline held steady compared to last week at $4.47 per gallon. Last week, the national average reached $4.48 per gallon, this is the highest the national average has ever been for this time of year. Typically, the start of autumn brings lower gas prices, but lingering volatility in the Strait of Hormuz and the high cost of crude oil are driving up pump prices. This month is on track to set a new September record. So far, the average for this month is $4.30, higher than the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased last week from 8.79 million barrels per day to 8.84 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 207.7 million barrels to 206 million. Gasoline production decreased slightly from 9.64 million barrels to 9.59 million.
