NASHVILLE, Tenn. — On Sept. 12, 2026, Vanderbilt scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to beat Delaware 35-26 at FirstBank Stadium, moving to 2-0 before a crowd of 35,000. More Sports News

Vanderbilt led 14-0 after one quarter but trailed 17-14 at halftime after Delaware answered with a field goal, a 1-yard touchdown run and a blocked punt return. The Commodores came back with drives of 70 and 60 yards, plus a blocked punt recovered in the end zone by Austin Howard.

The run game stayed modest, averaging 2.6 yards on 38 carries.

Receivers And Defense Carry The Second Half

Junior Sherrill caught five passes for 94 yards and totaled 145 all-purpose yards. Jayvontay Conner added six catches for 87 yards, and Walter Taylor caught a 19-yard touchdown to end the third quarter. The defense had six sacks and two interceptions, led by CJ Heard with eight tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Delaware got 109 rushing yards from Jo Silver and 142 receiving yards and a touchdown from Da’Wain Lofton, but converted 3 of 15 third downs and threw a late interception that ended the comeback.
