Tennessee’s 2026-27 mourning dove season opens Tuesday, Sept. 1 at noon, marking the start of one of the state’s longtime hunting traditions.
The season is divided into three segments: Sept. 1-28, Oct. 10-Nov. 1 and Dec. 8-Jan. 15, 2027.
Hunters must have a valid Tennessee hunting license and Migratory Bird Permit. Those hunting on private land must also get permission from the landowner.
The daily bag limit is 15 mourning doves. Collared doves have no bag limit, but birds that cannot be clearly identified as collared doves count toward the mourning dove limit.
Other migratory bird seasons also open Sept. 1, including early Canada goose, brant, light goose, moorhen, gallinule and rail seasons. A short crow season also begins Sept. 1.
