The company’s roots date back to 1955, when Harold “Shot” Jackson and legendary steel guitarist Buddy Emmons founded Sho-Bud in Nashville. The brand became known for its distinctive pedal steel guitars, which were used across country, rock, gospel, pop and jazz and became closely associated with the sound of Nashville.

Sho-Bud also has deep ties to Lower Broadway. Shot and his son Harry once operated out of 416 Broadway, now home to Robert’s Western World, where musicians would often stop in after Saturday night performances at the nearby Ryman Auditorium.

The Jackson family continued to innovate in steel guitar design for decades, and in December 2024, Dawn Jackson and Will Jackson reacquired the Sho-Bud brand, bringing it back under family ownership.

Today, Sho-Bud is once again producing instruments, components and accessories while expanding into publishing and a record label. The upcoming Sho-Bud Showcase brings together an eclectic lineup of artists, reflecting the brand’s influence far beyond traditional country music.
