Carl “Shorty” Byford, age 80, of McMinnville passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026 at his home. He was born to his parents, the late Lonnie Marlin Byford & Hattie Ethel Bogle Byford on March 28, 1946 in Dekalb County.
He is survived by his children, Carl (Gretchen) Byford, Jr. of Smithville, Arlin Lynn (Medeana) Byford of Woodbury, Chase Byford of Murfreesboro, & Heather (Matt) Crim of McMinnville; Siblings, Alice Faye Byford of McMinnville, Wilma Foster of Woodbury, Donald Byford of McMinnville, & Sue Close of Smithville; Special nieces, Sara Wright & Donna Baird. Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, & several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Byford & Sybil Gunter.
Shorty was a Veteran of the Army where he served in Vietnam. He was a truck driver and loved to play cards with his family and friends.
Graveside Services will be at 4 pm Monday, October 5, 2026 at Dekalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. James Tidwell officiating. His family will receive friends for the visitation from 5 pm to 8 pm Sunday, October 4, 2026.
