According to Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, and verified by the company’s media coordinator Crissy Gonzolas, the new Buc-ee'sthat will be located off Interstate 24 at the Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit is expected to open by the end of the year. The much-anticipated travel center will encompass 74,000 square feet and feature 120 fueling stations. The exact opening date is a bit murky. As Rutherford County Breaking News reported about a month ago, the official word was Buc-ee’s will open in December; however, they’ve also been told an earlier date of November. In fact, on July 15th, a report from Murfreesboro Pulse stated the opening date is November 16th. What we know for sure is construction is moving swiftly and Buc-ee’s will open this year. Originally projected to open in September 2024, the project required extensive improvement to several roads in the area, which took several years to complete. Buc-ee’s paid for all of the improvements, including interstate, interchange and roundabout, without help from the city, county or state according to McFarland on Rutherford County Breaking News.
The travel center will feature all that Buc-ee’s is known for — except the car wash — including their award-winning clean bathrooms, beef jerky, beaver nuggets, fudge, and brisket everything. It is an oasis for the weary traveler where they can take a break, stretch their legs, get some tasty food, fill up the gas tank, and buy just about anything you can think of in the way of merchandise, most carrying the Buc-ee’s logo. And there will be plenty of room to park, with 490 parking spots for cars, and 15 RV/bus parking slots. Buc-ee’s is a destination in and of itself.
“[The company] is anticipating over five million visitors a year,” Murfreesboro City Council member Jami Averwater told News 2. “And the average consumer at Buc-ee’s…[spends] $100. So, that is five million people spending $100 each, which means about $3.5 million in sales tax revenue to the city and another $3.5 million in sales tax revenue to the county.”
Their interstate signage, like their travel centers, is huge. It is bigger than city requirements, but at a recent Murfreesboro Planning Commission meeting, size restrictions in the city’s sign ordinance were overruled allowing Buc-ee’s to install their familiar signage displaying the famous buck-tooth beaver. Murfreesboro City Council upheld the Planning Commission’s action.
Another sign of progress toward opening is that Buc-ee’s is now in the process of hiring for the Murfreesboro location. Earlier this summer they listed several open management positions on their website, including for a Human Resources Field Representative, Assistant Gift/Merchandise Manager, Grocery Manager, Janitorial/Cleaning and Maintenance Manager and Assistant General Manager. They are expected to bring about 250 full-time jobs to the area.

Buc-ee’s opened its first Tennessee travel center in Crossville in June 2022, its second location near Sevierville in June 2023, and a third is scheduled to open this summer near Memphis. Murfreesboro will be the fourth location to open in the state.
