In 2024, Bo and Stacey Blansett opened their dream business, Busy Bee Café and Thrift, in the Lascassas Pharmacy. The community has embraced them and their great homemade bakery items, sandwiches and paninis, country breakfasts, ice cream and more. Because of their growth and success, the café just moved into a new building at 4685 East Jefferson Pike. There’s also a boutique with gently pre-used items as well as things made by some very talented people in the community. They must be doing something right, because they won the 2025 Ruthie Award for Best New Restaurant. More Eat & Drink News

Asking the Community for Input

“We asked… [w]hat does Lascassas want,” says their Facebook page. “How can we best serve YOU!? As usual, y’all came through with great feedback to help us build the perfect small-town cafe that will be here for years to come… Thank you to those of you who helped us toss around ideas of how to improve. [And] thank you for being patient with us while we made the changes needed to best serve this incredible community.”

A new menu has arrived with the new location, keeping old favorites and adding new items. They will continue to serve handmade burgers, pizzas and sandwiches, wings, salads, and soup, as well as country dinners. They even have a Kiddie Menu with chicken fingers, grilled cheese, and mini corn dogs. Of course, they also still have their cool ice cream treats perfect for a hot summer day, and tasty desserts.

Community Loves Food

“The new Busy Bee location is awesome,” exclaimed an online reviewer on Yelp. “Charming, hometown, and delicious. The pizza and meatloaf were spot on. The employees were very friendly…[W]e were welcomed by smiling faces and hospitality which is so important…The place is super cute, with several items for sale.”

While they carry a basic burger and cheese burger, diners might want to try the “Stinger Burger” served with fresh jalapenos and Pepper Jack Cheese. Chill off the hot on your tongue with a side of their Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad. For those wanting a little less spice, the Western Burger has barbecue sauce, onion rings, and cheddar cheese.

Every pizza is made by hand and baked the Sicilian way, with a crunchy, chewy crust. Choices run from classic pepperoni to an old-fashioned Hawaiian to kicky Buffalo Chicken. Not much on gluten? They make a gluten-free crust with up to three toppings.

Those who remember driving out to the old gas station and market in Lascassas where one former sheriff liked to go for a lunch of Fried Bologna Sandwiches with representatives from the local newspaper, you can find that same sandwich here. It is served on white toast with American cheese. A true blast from the past!

A specialty here is the Whole Hive Panini. It is stacked with thin slices of ham, turkey, salami, pepperoni, and provolone cheese melted and served on sourdough bread with garlic parmesan sauce. And don’t forget Ms. Stacey’s famous chicken salad made with grapes, apples and pecans served on toast. Just like grandma used to make, except with Ms. Stacey’s special secret.

“The food is delicious,” said another reviewer. “It’s a blessing to see someone who owns a restaurant [who] actually cares, [and] helps others in more ways than people know. I’m glad we have a local place to sit out and enjoy the [Tennessee] fresh air with breakfast [where I can] watch my furry animals enjoy the dog toys and sticks she puts out for them as well. Keep doing what you’re doing Stacey, we will continue to support and help you!!”
