Ford Motor Company is recalling 741,195 vehicles because of a transmission issue that could cause the parking mechanism to engage while the vehicle is moving, potentially damaging the transmission and increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the safety recall report, the defect affects certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with park-by-wire technology and 10R60, 10R80, or 10R80MHT transmissions.
The recalled vehicles include:
- 2021 Ford F-150: 82,570 vehicles
- 2020-2021 Ford Explorer: 313,147 vehicles
- 2018-2021 Ford Expedition: 246,202 vehicles
- 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator: 59,079 vehicles
- 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator: 40,197 vehicles
Ford said the problem may cause the transmission parking pawl to temporarily engage while the vehicle is in motion during certain gear shifts, which could damage the parking system components.
The affected vehicles were built between March 2017 and November 2021, depending on the model.
Owners can determine whether their vehicle is included in the recall by calling Ford’s customer service line at 1-866-436-7332 or contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealership to check the vehicle identification number (VIN).
