Water Wars examines a real-life battle over groundwater rights in West Texas, following ranchers and farmers in Dell City as they become caught in a high-stakes dispute involving water access, local politics and powerful landowners.

Directed by Mario Mattei, the film explores how the conflict eventually reached the Texas Supreme Court and became part of a broader debate over groundwater regulation and property rights. Mattei shared with us, “This is a really important story.”

Quaid narrates the documentary and has said he was drawn to the story in part because of his own experience dealing with water rights while owning a ranch in Montana. Quaid said, “The story had me.” He continued, “I got so involved in the story, I had to do it.” He also added that he hopes the audience is entertained by the story and would ask themselves what they would do in the same situation.

Water Wars previously premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival, where it won Best Texas Feature Film.

The 83-minute documentary is being distributed by Good Deed Entertainment and is scheduled to begin streaming on Prime Video September 4.
