NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt beat NC State 35-31 on Saturday, Sept. 19, at FirstBank Stadium after Miles Capers knocked the ball loose in the Wolfpack end zone and Cayden Daniels recovered it for a touchdown with one second left. How Vanderbilt beat NC State on the final play

NC State (1-2) led 31-28 and faced fourth-and-7 at its own 5-yard line with six seconds left, trying to run out the clock. Before quarterback CJ Bailey’s knees touched the turf, Capers knocked the ball free, and Daniels fell on it for the winning score.

Vanderbilt’s 17-point comeback is the largest of the Clark Lea era

It is the largest comeback of the Clark Lea era and Vanderbilt’s first from 17 points down since a 27-26 win over Ole Miss on Nov. 10, 2012. NC State led 24-7 in the third quarter before Tristen Brown made a career-long 33-yard catch to set up a Mahkilyn Young touchdown run. Sedrick Alexander scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to three. The win was Vanderbilt’s 11th consecutive home nonconference victory.

Vanderbilt opens SEC play at Auburn on Saturday

Vanderbilt finished its three-game homestand and opens conference play at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3:15 p.m. The game airs on SEC Network.
