Four people were hospitalized after a ride malfunction Wednesday night at the Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair, WSMV reports.
Emergency crews evaluated nine people after the Wave Swinger ride malfunctioned. Four of those individuals were taken to a local hospital in non-critical conditions.
According to ride operator, Reithoffer Shows, the Wave Swinger stopped during operation, and as it descended, several riders came into contact with a surrounding fence.
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development responded to the incident and issued a cease-and-desist order for the ride, preventing it from operating until it is determined to be safe.
The department said the ride had been inspected by a third-party vendor on Aug. 12, before the fair opened, after receiving a new computer system and motor. Officials said the manufacturer must determine whether those upgrades affected the ride’s operation.
Reithoffer Shows said a state inspector examined the attraction Thursday and had not found any abnormalities but added that no additional information was available.
The Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair is scheduled to continue through Saturday.
